The Snack Food Association and Others Urge the FDA to Outline FSMA Regulations
On May 29, 2012, Mr. James McCarthy, President and CEO of the Snack Food Association, in a letter to Mr. Michael Taylor, Deputy Commissioner of Foods at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), requested that the FDA issue guidance as soon as possible concerning the timeline for enforcement of new provisions under the FDA’s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). McCarthy, along with 17 food and beverage associations, expressed his concerns about the lack of final regulations relating to FSMA. With several FSMA deadlines fast approaching, the Associations fear that the industry will not have ample time to prepare for new FDA requirements.
