Registrar Corp Vice President, Russell Statman, explains the new responsibilites for U.S. Agents under FDA’s new Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) in the latest issue of Tea & Coffee’s Magazine. Starting October 1, 2011, FSMA mandates that FDA begin charging hourly fees for reinspecting foreign food facilities. These reinspection fees are “to be paid by the United States Agent for each foreign facility.” Many U.S. Agents are unaware of this new responsibility since their original obligation (when FDA Food facility registration began in 2003) was limited to the facilitation of communication between the foreign company and the FDA.
