David Park, FSPCA PCHF Lead Instructor

Park received a food science degree from Purdue University in 1972 and began employment with the National Canners Association as a Process Engineer, providing thermal process and packaging technical support for over 600 industry members. In 1980, Park was hired by TechniCAL, Inc., New Orleans LA as Vice President, supporting the development of their independent process authority consulting program.  Park assisted industry clients in validating new thermal and non-thermal preservation technologies and to provide technical assistance in meeting FDA and USDA-FSIS low-acid and acidified canned food GMP requirements. Park provided critical client technical support for the introduction of the military Meal-Ready-to-Eat (MRE) operational combat rations manufacturing program.

During this tenure at TechniCAL, Park co-founded the Institute of Thermal Processing Specialists (IFTPS) in 1981.  Park also co-developed the first commercially introduced FDA & USDA-FSIS-accepted automated PC-control system for retort sterilization (LOG-TECTM). Park was a co-developer for the industry application and market-launch of NumeriCALTM, the worlds’ first and, today, most widely used finite-difference heat transfer model for complex thermal processing calculations, industry-launched in 1985. In 1994, TechniCAL. Inc. licensed its LOG-TECTM and NumeriCALTM products to JBT FoodTech (formally FMC FoodTech) serving as Process Technologies Manager for the Food Processing Systems Division in Madera, CA.  During this employ, Park was promoted to Technical Fellow, the only such position occupied by a Food Processing Machinery Division employee and served on the FMC FoodTech Global Technology Council.

Park currently serves as an industry instructor for the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) Better Process Control Schools, the University of Maryland Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (JIFSAN) International Training Programs and University of MD Nutrition and Food Science Department. Park is an FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Foods (PCHF) Lead Instructor. In 2016, Park was elected as Alternate Councilor-At-Large for Phi Tau Sigma Food Science Honorary, is a Lifetime Member and also appointed an Adjunct Expert for the Food Protection and Defense Institute (FPDI) at the University of Minnesota.  During his career, Park received the National Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers (NAFEM) Honorary Doctorate of Food Service Award, the U.S. Army Civilian Patriotic Service Award and Purdue University Outstanding Food Science Alumni Award.
